Wine tasting ...from Romania thru Bulgaria
Our tour begins in the southern part of Romania.
This is because most fly into the Bucharest Otopeni airport. Then we start a
movement north to the Transylvania area and then on to the county of
Transylvania. We are not looking for vampires. The western part of Romania
along with the southern county of Muntenia and the Dobrogea Blace Sea area the
wines of Romania need to be group along side those of Bulgaria. That is why we
put this tour together to let you have a sip of both countries best.
This is how you will remember the Romania vineyards along with the wines of
Bulgaria. Both have a lot of historical sites for us to explore and intrigue
your minds with their history and cultures.
Tour Itinerary
Day 1:
Arrival at Bucharest Otopeni Airport. Transfer to Ploiesti. Wine tasting along
with dinner at Urlati, “Urlateanu Boyard Manor”. Accommodations in Sinaia at
Hotel Palace Day 2:
Visit Peles and Pelisor Castles, ex-summer residence of king Carol I of
Romania and the most representative Renaissance building in Romania, built in
the style of neo-Renaissance. Drive to Bran castle, a symbol of Transylvania
also called “Dracula’s Castle. Visit the fortified Saxon church of Prejmer,
from the 15 –16th Century. Sightseeing tour of Brasov and festive
wine tasting dinner with folk show in Carpathian Stag Wine Cellar.
Accommodations in Hotel Aro. Day 3:
Depart to Sighisoara a lively European medieval town, which is included in the
UNESCO list of World Heritage as a Saxon fortress. It is the only fully
inhabited medieval town in Europe. Sighisoara was mentioned for the first time
in 1208 under the name “Castrum Sex”. Here we can visit the Torture Room,
Medieval Weapons Collection, and the Tower Museum. Drive to Praid for lunch at
the sheepfold with palika-tasting (strong alcoholic Romanian beverage ~60°!).
Return to Brasov on the way visit the open-air pottery exhibition from Corund.
Dinner and accommodations in Hotel Aro. Day 4:
Depart to Focsani for champagne tasting at Panciu vineyard (min. 5 types of
wine to taste). Taste one of the best wines in Romania-Golden of Odobesti
vineyard - dinner at Tamaioasa Romaneasca restaurant (min. 5 types of wine to
taste). Drive to Bucharest for festive dinner in Hanul Iui Manuc.
Accommodations at Hotel Lebada. Day 5:
Sightseeing tour of Bucharest (by coach and walking) including a visit to The
Parliament’s Palace (House of the People) second largest building in the world
after the US Pentagon and first in Europe. Tour of the patriarchal complex and
the former Romanian Princely Court (“The Old Court”). Depart to Giurgiu for
custom formalities, and border crossing. Day 6:
Arrive in Ruse by coach approx. 2:00 pm. Drive to
Shuman for wine tasting in the “Domaine Boyar” Wine Cellar. Sample grape
brandy, merlot, and four red wine Cabernets. Dine on Bulgarian cuisine
specialties in the Shumen Hotel tavern. Day 7:
Sightseeing of Shumen-Tombul Mosque (18th Century), and the
Monument of the founders of the Bulgarian State. Visit the museum in Preslav,
which exhibits artifacts from the period of the first Bulgarian Kingdom (7th-10th
Century). Wine tasting in the Han Krum Wine Cellar. Tasting such white wines
as Chardonnay, Traminer, Rose “Han Krum”, Pinot gris and brandy “Preslav”.
Drive to Veliko Tarnovo – capital of the second Bulgarian Kingdom (12th
– 14th century) sited picturesquely on the hills of the riverbanks
of Jantra. Dinner at Hotel Veliko Tarnovo. Day 8:
Sightseeing of the town with entrance to the
mediaeval fortress of Tsarevets hill. Visit the village of Arbanassi
architectural reserve with entrance to “Jesus Christ’s Nativity” church and
Konstanzliev’s house (merchants’ house from the 17th century. White
and red wine tasting of such wines as Lyaskovets Chardonnay, Aligote, and
Cabernet in the wine cellar of Lyaskovets. Drive to Sofia for dinner, and over
night stay at a 3 star hotel. Day 9:
One-day excursion to Rila Monastery – one of the oldest and largest monasteries
with medieval defense tower (14th century) in Bulgaria founded in the
10th century. Frescos by the most prominent painters from the
Bulgarian Revival period. Evening folklore show and over night at Hotel in
Sofia. Day
10: Sightseeing tour of the city,
including a walk in the central area with visit to Al Nevski Cathedral, see
ruins from the Roman and mediaeval period. St. George Rotunda (4th c.
AD) St. Petka of the Saddlers Church. Optional visit to Boyana Church with
unique frescos from 11th – 13th century and the National
Museum of History. Return to Bucharest by coach. Day
11: Return home or extend your stay in
